Hello everyone! Today I will be talking about the presentations my class did for chapters 3,9, and 10. My professor split our class up into 3 groups and assigned us our chapters. Group one had chapter 1 and they talked about Intercultural communication. My group which is Group 2 had Communication in groups, which is chapter 9. Lastly Group 3 had chapter 10 which is Group Leadership and Problem Solving. All the groups had to make a PowerPoint and had to talk about the chapters they did and explain the topics of the chapters. My group decided that it was best to make a Whatsapp group chat to communicate on what our assigned sections from the chapters we were to do, and we all decided that each of us should do 3 words each. The only problem now is is someone would have an extra word, but Joyce was so nice enough to volunteer to do the extra word.

The first group to go up was Group 1 and from what i remember is they did pretty well. They had so many videos and photos but sadly I couldn't hear some of it due to technical deficiencies on their end but they overall did amazing and I found it very interesting how different cultures communicate with each other and I found it interesting when it comes to cultural identity. Also I learned from their presentation on the potential barriers between cultures like stereotyping and incompatible norms. Like when it comes to incompatible norms Hindus don't eat meat, while many western and eastern cultures do. They also explained the differences between race and ethnicity. What I find interesting is how many western nations have high indulges while many eastern nations have low indulges. Talking about different cultures is my favorite topic to talk about since it's part of my major that I'm studying. So Group 1 did an amazing job!

My group which was Group 2 talked about chapter 9 and it was communication in groups. We talked a lot on social groups and how to work together in groups to achieve a goal during a project. Just like Group 1 we had a lot a videos and pictures and diagrams also. We all spoke about the assigned sections we had in the chapter and explained everything perfectly. While many of my group members weren't present during the presentation, they had the time to record it and sent it to our group leader for her to play when their section came up. When it was my turn to talk about my sections I spoke about they were, norms, ground rules, and accountability. I explained the first topic which was norms I explained that norms are expectations on how group members behave, and I explained norms are developed through formal discussion. The next topic was ground rules and I explained that groups establish ground rules when it comes to working together in order to achieve a goal. Next topic I explained was accountability and when it comes to that topic it means members of a group are held reasonable for adhering group norms and working towards the group's goal. That means basically a group will penalize a member who violates the groups norm. I found my topics super interesting and very informative to learn and I noticed that we are doing everything this chapter is explaining when it comes to working in a group.

Lastly was Group 3. Unfortunately I was absent from class, but I watched the recording from the class and from what I saw they had chapter 10 and it talked about Group Leadership and Problem Solving. It talked about the leaders role and what it means to be leadership whether its for a study group, or a group project leader. They also talked about formal leadership, which talks about decision making responsibility, influence and the authority when it comes to the position of a leader. Group 3 had some interesting information. When it comes down to leadership roles, organizing tasks, maintenance and procedural roles. What I find interesting is a maintenance leadership roles, it's a sets of behaviors that help the group develop and maintain cohesion. commitment, and positive working relationships. Group 3 had a very interesting topic and so far this class has been very interesting.
